03.27.14 Further clarification of our cancellation decision
Woodland MX Park did not cancel our race, we the Staff of Quadcross Northwest made the decision to cancel it after considering many factors. I’ll list a few for you:
1. We consulted with the local track crew about what shape the track was currently in on Wednesday afternoon after 2 days of rain and a forecast of continued rain thru Sunday and how that much rain may affect the track. I’m not sure if you have raced at Woodland but we have and we know what the effects of a lot of rain will do to the race conditions of that track.
2. While you may have a quad or SxS that would not have much problems racing in a muddy environment, not everyone races a 450 or SxS. We also have many youth racers with smaller atv’s that would not do very well in muddy conditions. Some of those small one’s even have exposed air cleaners and could easily ruin an engine if they got into too much water. (that happened last year)
3. Our series has riders that come from Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana and Canada. Please see below the National Weather Service’s advisory for Woodland for this weekend. We also take into consideration the safety of everyone who travels to our events.
4. This was not an easy decision, we know many people have to take time off, adjust their schedules and have spent a lot of time, money and effort to get ready to race Quadcross Northwest. I would be glad to share with you how much time, money and effort I have personally spent to get ready for this weekend.
5. Woodland has probably opted to have a practice session on Sunday (if the track is capable) to try and generate some revenue due to the fact that we just cancelled our weekend.
6. Conditions may change and Woodland might not get all the rain that is expected, the storm may not hit and it may not produce snow in the mountains for those who are traveling, but as a business decision and safety decision it’s one we the staff of Quadcross are not willing to take.

... VERY WET AND STRONG STORM EXPECTED TO IMPACT SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON THIS EVENING THROUGH MUCH OF THE WEEKEND...
A STRONG SPRING STORM WILL ARRIVE THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY AND PRODUCE INCREASING RAIN AND WIND ACROSS SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON.
THE WARM FRONT WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL SPREAD THE FIRST SURGE OF RAIN ACROSS SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON THURSDAY NIGHT. THE ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL THEN REMAIN OVER MUCH OF SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON FRIDAY. THIS WILL PRODUCE MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN AT TIMES ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA THROUGH FRIDAY.
BEST ESTIMATES OF TOTAL RAINFALL FROM TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING ARE FOR 2 TO 5 INCHES ALONG THE COAST... COASTAL MOUNTAINS... AND THE CASCADES. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 0.75 INCHES TO 1.50 INCHES ARE LIKELY FOR OTHER AREAS.
PLAN ON MODERATE TO SHARP RISES FOR SMALL STREAMS AND RIVERS FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT. FLOODING IS NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME. SOME MINOR LANDSLIDES ARE ALREADY BEING REPORTED AROUND THE REGION UNDER SATURATED SOIL CONDITIONS. ADDITIONAL LANDSLIDES ARE NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION... ESPECIALLY AROUND THE COAST RANGE... THE WILLAPA HILLS... NORTH OREGON CASCADES... AND THE COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE LATER FRIDAY.
ADDITIONALLY... SOUTH WINDS WILL INCREASE EARLY FRIDAY. EXPECT SOUTH WINDS OF 15 TO 30 MPH ON THE COAST... WITH GUSTS 40 TO 50 MPH. STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE ON THE EXPOSED HEADLANDS AND OPEN BEACHES. BREEZY CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED FARTHER INLAND ON FRIDAY. THE SATURATED SOILS MAY COMBINE WITH LEAFING TREES AND COULD RESULT IN TREE DAMAGE OR TOPPLING... EVEN WITH WIND GUSTS 30 TO 35 MPH.
BEHIND THE COLD FRONT ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON... HEAVIER RAIN WILL SHIFT FURTHER SOUTH AND SNOW LEVELS WILL GRADUALLY LOWER. SIGNIFICANT SNOW DEVELOPS AS THE COLDER AIR ALOFT ARRIVES FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY. SEVERAL INCHES ARE POSSIBLE AT MAJOR PASS LEVELS IN THE CASCADES BEGINNING FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH 1 TO 2 FEET AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
CONDITIONS MAY CHANGE AND FORECASTS MAY CHANGE. SO PLEASE... STAY TUNED INTO TO YOUR FAVORITE WEATHER SOURCE FOR THE LATEST FORECASTS AND WARNINGS. THIS WILL NOT BE A GREAT TIME FOR OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
